This paper considers the steady state queueing properties of pedestrians who are delayed by traffic on a main road. It is assumed that the size of the gap between two successive cars dete rmin es the probability that an individual pedestrian or a group of pedestrians will cross. The tec hniqu e of imbedded Markov chains yields many new results as well as some previously found , by co mbinatorial methods by Tanner in 1951.doi:10.6028/jres.067b.018 fatcat:tfogr72ncjcyhke6b2s6523ooy
