In this study, it was investigated that to what extent the 7th grade math and science students have the synthesizing mind skills. The study group was formed by students in three schools (above average, average, and below average) located in Ankara. Except for these particular circumstances, the extent of students' synthesizing mind skills had the same characteristics as the academic grading of the schools. ÖzetBu araştırmada yedinci sınıf Matematik ve Fen Bilimleri derslerinde öğrencilerin sentezleyen zihin becerisinin göstergesi olan davranışları hangi düzeyde sergiledikleri incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu; Seviye Belirleme Sınavı puanlarına göre belirlenen yüksek, orta ve düşük başarı düzeyinde üç okulun birer yedinci sınıfının öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Araştırma verileri; araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen, gözlem formu, senaryo formu ve görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; gözlemler sırasında Fen Bilimleri dersinde orta düzey okulun diğer okullara göre daha yüksek düzeyde davranış sergilemesi, görüşmelerde yüksek düzey okul öğrencilerinin davranış düzeylerini düşük görmesi ve düşük düzey okul öğrencilerinin kendilerine yüksek puan vermesi dışında; öğrencilerin sentezleyen zihin becerilerini sergileme düzeylerinin, okulların başarı düzeylerine benzer şekilde sıralandığı görülmüştür. Öğretme-öğrenme ortamında sentezleyen zihin özelliklerinin sergilenmesinin büyük ölçüde öğretmenin niteliğine bağlı olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bu nedenle öğretmenlerin hizmet öncesi ve hizmet içinde öğrencilerin sentezleyen zihin özelliklerini geliştirecek eğitimleri almaları sağlanmalıdır.
