For teaching English as a foreign language (EFL), English listening textbooks are always blamed for artificial lectures for teaching academic listening skills, and students complain about the listening, repeating, and filling in the blank way of teaching. To better solve these problems, the authors conducted a three-cycle of action research and tended to answer these two questions: (1) Are TED talks appropriate materials for use in class?
