Traditional pathways for understanding the performance of nuclear fuel cladding requires irradiationseither via accelerated ion irradiations or through neutron irradiations -followed by some degree of characterization of the microstructure. These characterization efforts have historically included transmission-based electron microscopy techniques and more recently atom probe tomography (APT) techniques. These methods have inherently laborious components within them such as sample preparation
