Copper and nickel α-naphthylbignanide bases, both hydrated and anhydrous, have been prepared. The complex nickel base has been isolated in three forms, α, β and γ, differing in colour, solubility, melting point and other properties as well as in their state of hydration. Of these, α- and β-forms represent respectively the cis- and trans-isomers of the planar square nickel complex and γ, their solid solution or molecular compound. Copper α-naphthylbiguanide hydrochloride has also been isolated

A series of complex copper naphthylbiguanide salts, viz., chloride, bromide, iodide, sulphate, thiosulphate, dithionate, sulphocyanide, nitrate and carbonate have been prepared and their properties studied. In the case of nickel the only salts prepared and studied were chloride and sulphate.
