Far-ultraviolet photons from OB-type massive stars regulate the heating, ionization, and chemistry of much of the neutral interstellar gas in star-forming galaxies. The interaction of FUV radiation and interstellar matter takes place in environments broadly known as photodissociation regions (PDRs).
