more » ... scribed in the previous paper. Production of cone and seed was much smaller in plots located within the same basin as the power plant than a plot Iocated outside of it. Seed-faIl was very slight before December when the greater portien ofthe seed fe1I, and it continued to decrease gradually unti1 Apri1. Any specific trend was not recognized in the seasonal pattern ofcone-faII. Except for the Iargest trees, among the troes ofthe same diamcter at breast height, production efcones and seeds was larger jn the plot located outside the basin than those within it, Shedding of male flower occurred in April and May. Production of reproductive ergans in the samp]e p]ots within the same basin as the power plant was much smaller than those in the plot which is separated from the plant by a mountain range. Intoroduction Production of cones, seeds and male-fiowers was compared ameng the three sample plots of which general descriptions rvere given in a previous paper (SAToo 1979a). The plots consisted of two plots (A and B) in' the same basin as a big power plant in・ Owase and a plot (C) in Miyama which is separated from the power plant by a mountain range. Method The production of cene and seed in 1972 and of male fiower in 1973 was estimated by reeovering the cones, seeds and fiowers from litter collected with funnels described previously (SAToo l979b). The production of seed and cone in 1973 was estimated by addlng the amount collected by funnels before felling the sample trees to that left on trees which was estimated by the harvest method (SAToo 1979a). Cones collected from the sample trees were left to dry in the laberatory and all seeds in the cones were taken out using tweezers. About 600 seeds from the top layer of each sample tree were removed for testing. The seeds left in the cohes cel]ected with funne]s were also taken out with tweezers, AII seeds, cones, and male-fioweres were dried at 850C and weighed.
