This paper addresses some issues about the taxonomy of two traversodontid cynodonts: Exaeretodon. and Ischignathus. The type species of Exaeretodon, a Late Triassic genus, is E. frenguellii, but the valid name of the Argentinian species is E. argentinus. Another species of this genus is E. riograndensis from Brazil.
