In order to clarify upon what features of the f・equ ・ n ・ y ・ pect ・um P ( f) ・ f v 。wel ・ ・ u ・ audit ・・y system concentrates attention , we investigated on the following two 三 tems by means of auditory tests, With varying number , position and arnp ! itude of harmonic components Qf P ( f)as parameters : ( 1 ) the in且uence of zeros due to on vowel perception , the vocal source ' s frequency spectrum and ( 2 ) the harmonic components which are 皿 ost closely related w 三 th the phonemic and vocal

The results obtained are as follows: ( 1 ) 工 fazero of the source comes near to a formant frequency and decreases the amplitude of harmonic compQnents composing the vowel ' s for皿 ant , rnore than 6 dB confusion arises in vowel preception . This is true regardless tQ the nulnber of the har ・ 皿 onic components composing the particular formant・ ( Experiments we ・e d・ n ・ in F2 − ・egi ・ n ) ・ ( 2 ) Aseries of vowels Pj ( whose fundamental frequency = 125 Hz , bandwidth − 4kHz , an ( ! i = 1ド ー ・ , 32)are synthesized by adding harmonic components of P ( !) , one by one , in the order of decreasing ampljtude . ( 」 櫑 2 corresponds to P ( f) , the standard sound . ) Our object is to find out how many harmonic components of largest amplitudes are neeessary ( i. e . what ゴ will be ) se as Pj to be identified with P ( f ) or P3 ? in terms of phonemic and vocal qualities , pitch, and identification rate .
