This study sets out to establish the epidemiology of cerebral palsy in the drought stricken Giyani district in the Northern Province. Seventy-nine children with cerebral palsy were assessed at Nkhensani hospital. The cause and type of cerebral palsy were established as well as the main concerns of the parents. Thirty-two percent of cerebral palsy was found to be due to postnatal causes, which may be attributed to the prevalence of meningitis and gastroenteritis.
