Reaction kinetics in the Al-Ni system was investigated considering the fact that Al-Ni composites have been found as attractive candidates for a number of industrial sectors. Al-Ni composites were prepared by gas-assisted infiltration of either Ni rods or Ni powders with molten Al. Microstructural analysis revealed that various Ni aluminides were grown and their formation and the morphology at the interfacial zones can be effectively controlled by the time of infiltration.
