Issues in the US-China trade relationship remain a barrier to truly sustainable and mutually beneficial trade between the two countries. The Phase One agreement between the US and China dealt with some issues, but did not address "interoperability" challenges arising from differences in the two countries' economic systems. National security concerns, especially in telecommunications, are also a sticking point.
