Commemoration is an unfinished living process and the meanings of monuments always evolve as each generation brings new horizons and understandings to them. With an eye toward such critical issues commemoration and memory raise, this article examines in what follows how W. B. Yeats performs an act of commemoration in "Easter 1916" and how his mixed impulses and self-divisive impulses are textualized into the poem.
