A coumarin-benzothiazole ratiometric probe of ATP was designed and synthesized. The probe is based on incorporation of benzothiazole scaffold as a donor and coumarin nucleus as an acceptor in a single Förster resonance energy transfer/fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) sensing platform. The sensor can detect ATP in aqueous solution with high selectivity over other nucleotide polyphosphate (NPP) anions.
