Determining the molecular mechanisms involved in the healing of wounds created by tooth extraction will likely increase understanding of jawbone healing after dental surgery. Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) is required for mesenchymal stem cells to differentiate to osteoprogenitor cells. Therefore, we used a rat model to analyze RUNX2 expression during wound-socket healing after tooth extraction.
