Sports and energy (S/E) drinks are commonly used by high school (HS) athletes, yet little is known about this population's consumption patterns or the drinks' side-effects. The objectives of this pilot study were to survey HS athletes about their use of S/E drinks and assess potential side-effects. One hundred American HS athletes (72 were female; 27 were male; one did not identify gender) were part of a cross-sectional internet-based survey.
