Flow-vacuum pyrolysis of 5H-10,11-dihydro-dibenzo[a,d]-cyclohepten-5-ol and 5-hydroxymethyl-5H-dibenzo[a,d]-cycloheptene

Flow-vacuum pyrolysis of title compounds 7 and 8 was investigated at 1.33 mbar on a large temperature interval (500 o C-800 o C). The main reaction products of 7 were: anthracene, 9methylanthracene, dibenzosuberone, 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene and 5H-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene. The pyrolysis products of 8 were: anthracene, 9-methyl-anthracene, phenanthrene, 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene and 5-methylene-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene. more » ... rationalization of the formation of above products. A comparison of reaction routes in pyrolyses of the title alcohols is presented. The results are also compared with those of previously studied dynamic pyrolyses of related hydrocarbons and ketones.
