Primary School Students' Mathematics Motivation and Anxieties

This research was conducted with students attending in third and fourth grades in primary schools located in Istanbul province to examine primary school students' mathematics motivation and anxieties. It was concluded that students' mathematics motivations were at medium level and their mathematics anxieties were very low; there were no differences as per gender; and mathematics motivations among forth grade students were higher than those of third grade students, intrinsic motivations among
more » ... otivations among students who liked mathematics were higher than those of students who did not like mathematics, and students reporting that they liked mathematics had lower levels of anxiety. In addition, a negative relationship was detected between students' mathematics scores and their mathematics anxiety, and a positive relationship was detected between students' mathematics scores and mathematics motivations.
