Pyridinoline is a nonreducible crosslink of collagen. The effect of mineralization on the synthesis of pyridinoline in bone collagen was studied both in virro and in vivo. Mineralized and demineralized chick bone collagens were incubated with physiological saline at 37°C. The rate of synthesis of pyridinoline in the mineralized collagen was lower than in the demineralized collagen. Rachitic rats were prepared by feeding a low-phosphate diet.
