Recent Mexican policies that promote the construction of housing units are aimed at the optimization of the scarce available spaces in large cities. Within this context, the construction of tall buildings is being considered. Tall masonry buildings will likely have slender walls in their structural system. An increase in the slenderness ratio of a wall results in a change of its behavior when subjected to lateral loads; evolving from a shear dominated response to a bending dominated one.
