The paper focuses on the strategies of constructing queer identities in modern German and Russian cinema. On the material of three Russian and two German films of the 21st century, revealing the features of the melodrama genre, the similarities and differences in the representation of queer-identity are investigated, and their cultural and historical context is analysed. In Russian queer cinema there is a tendency to marginalize characters, to place them in a criminal or bohemian environment,

The cinema of the Federal Republic of Germany tends, in contrast, to the 'normalization' of queer characters, to endowing them with values of hegemonic masculinity and to a (relatively) harmonious resolution of melodramatic conflict. A special, intermediate position is occupied by the Russian film "I love you" (2004), which combines many themes, motives and techniques of the Russian cinema with the strategies of representation of cinematographic works of Germany.
