In this paper, the identification of the superstructure stiffness and sway/rocking stiffness on an existing eight-storey steel-encased reinforced concrete building is shown through strong motion observations. The following results are shown: 1) Three types of natural frequencies, in which the effect of soil-structure interaction is considered, are identified. The natural frequency tends to decrease due to aging. 2) The rocking stiffness tends to increase due to aging, and after Tohoku
more » ... er Tohoku earthquake sway/rocking stiffness decreases. In large-PGA cases, the sway/rocking stiffness tends to be smaller. 3) Superstructure stiffness tends to decrease due to aging, and after Tohoku earthquake superstructure stiffness decreases.
