Holdings and Expenditures of U.S. Academic Libraries: An Evaluative Technique

The current acquisitions expenditures and holdings of the nation, s academic libraries as a whole are examined relative to the numbers of ~tudents and faculty for the period 1952-1962 by the use of random sampling and multivariate analysis. The formulae which are derived from the data serve two functions: they describe existing national behavioral patterns; and they permit one to measure his institution, s performance against that of other, similar institutions.
