Homogeneous shear deformation in thermo-visco-plastic material may become unstable due to thermal softening. Moreover, it was shown that the coupled dissipative work rate causes the deformation zone to contract. The balance of dissipative work rate and heat diffusion, which otherwise tends to extend the deformation zone, leads to quasi-static narrow shear band. Generally speaking, two kinds of diffusion are involved, namely heat and momentum diffusion. Within the same time scale, the lengthdoi:10.1515/jmbm.19220.127.116.11 fatcat:6dk76jrcpnau3cjr6raf4knztu
