Effect of linearly polarized light on metamagnetic phase transition in Ca3Mn2Ge3O12 garnet

It has been found that the field H t of a metamagnetic phase transition in Ca 3 Mn 2 Ge 3 O 12 garnet changes as a result of illumination of the crystal with linearly polarized light. The value of H t decreases under the illumination with the light polarization Eʈ͓110͔ and increases in the case of the light polarization Eʈ͓11 0͔. The difference in the values of transition field in these two cases amounts to ϳ100 Oe at the temperature Tϭ7 K, for which H t Ӎ31.2 kOe in an unexposed crystal. The
