A pilling tester has been developed to form pills by varying the three kinds of testing conditions, rubbing pressure, revolutional speed and eccentric distance. The number of formed pills, fiber length distribution and the number of fiber ends held to the fabric construction have been determined by using the tester. An investigation has been made of the influence of the three kinds of testing conditions on the number of pills and pill construction. It has been found that under certain pressure
more » ... nd eccentric distance, the number of pills increases with increasing the revolutional speed. It, however, decreases over the critical revolutional speed. The rate of pill formation almost decreases with increasing the rubbing pressure. Within a certain range of distance, the prolonged eccentric distance increases the number of pills and the rate of pill formation.
