In the year following the official introduction of Photography (1840), photographic expeditions became widely popular, especially to exotic lands. These recreational excursions were broadly disseminated with the publication of photographic albums. Francis Frith, a British Quaker who travelled to regions of Biblical reference in the Middle East on three occasions, founded the largest printing enterprise in the world.
