The article analyses the careers and the political and intellectual contributions of two Portuguese educators -Rui Grácio and Rogério Fernandes -to teaching, research and democratic construction. At first, we consider their ideas and actions regarding teacher's training. Following, we explore the conceptions about the role of educational history in Portuguese historical interpretations.
