Neurological paraneoplastic syndromes

Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes are uncommon, however, their diagnosis is of major practical importance. The identification of antibodies in the serum or cerebrospinal fluid in central nervous system paraneoplastic syndromes confirms the clinical diagnosis of a paraneoplastic syndrome and allows early identification of an underlying tumour at a stage when it is localised and more amenable to treatment.
