For medium term conservation o f horti cul tura1 species, various routine techniques a r e now employed extensively. For long term conservation, cryopreservation (-196°C) i s presently the only technique available. I t h a s been applied t o more t h a n 40 h o r t i c u l t u r a l s p e c i e s .
