The basic presupposition of this article is that South Africans of European descent are now discovering how modernist their identity really is. The political changes in our country and our concomitant disillusionment strongly drive this realisation home. The way in which the church loses and probably will continue losing members, is a symptom of the consequences of a modernist identity.
