Changing leukocyte cohorts are a feature of normal endometrial remodelling in women. Neutrophils and eosinophils are associated primarily with menstrual breakdown and repair , while macrophages and uterine NK cells increase in number during the mid-secretory phase and continue to increase while progesterone levels are maintained and in association with decidualization of the stroma: these are most abundant in the decidua of early pregnancy .
