The study proposes a reading of the devilish pact in Grande sertão: veredas, from some of the numerous tales that perpass the narrative, whose constant are the "exchanges of destiny" or "existential conversions" that occur asymmetric: an individual of dominant character or social condition imposes the setbacks of his fate to a subordinate, in the meaning of dr. Hilário's lesson, character of one of the aforementioned "tales": "Um outro pode ser a gente; mas a gente não pode ser um outro, nem

The triangulation between Riobaldo, Diadorim and Hermógenes, whose destinies, although autonomous, are inseparable, constituting fantasmatic projections of each other, is also explored. The symbolism of gold, silver and lead, related to the women who prevail in Riobaldo's life, is analyzed comparatively in relation to William Shakespeare's "King Lear", focusing mainly on lead, representation of evil, which protects itself with its wearer, leading him to death, a metaphor of the action of the individual who protects himself from the roughness of life at the expense of another.
