In the last decades on the territory of Bulgaria a large number of disasters with high intensity are registered thus making the country an area with a high risk of disaster events. Management with the aim of disaster risk reduction is a shared social responsibility at all institutional levels and a long-term process. more » ... isaster risk management on the one hand (veterinary authorities and veterinary administration) and on the other - in providing resources for disaster mitigation through their daily field work (private veterinary practice). The object of this study is focused on the veterinary practices and more precisely – on their level of preparedness for disaster response and continuing professional activity after that. In regard to this an empirical sociological survey was carried out among veterinary practitioners in order to determine the available options for ensuring the safety of staff and practice during disaster event and their preparedness to maintain business continuity when an emergency situation arises. The findings could be used for identifying perspectives for development of veterinary practices in the country to achieve full and sustainable operational functionality for future disaster outbreaks.
