Dans un travail préliminaire, en 1976, après avoir retracé l'historique du genre Xenolpium nous proposions de considérer comme types les spécimens réellement observés et étudiés par J. C. Chamberlin, c'est-à-dire un mâle et une tritonymphe de Botanical gardens, Wellington, Nouvelle-Zélande, et non Xenolpium pacificum With de Stewart Island (coll. H. B. Kirk, 9.XII.27). Ce choix, issu du fait que nous avions noté que les mensurations données par With (rapport: longueur télofémur/longueur préfémur > 1) différaient de celles de Chamberlin (clé p. 589 où il indiquait: longueur télofémur/ longueur préfémur > 1). Cette différence plaçant les spécimens dans deux tribus différentes.
