Effectiveness and safety of herbal medicinal product Cyclodynon® in treatment of menstrual irregularities in adolescent girls: a review of clinical usage

In the article a generalization of clinical usage experience of herbal medicinal product Cyclodynon ® (Bionorica CE, Germany) (containing a Vitex agnus castus extract) in adolescent girls with menstrual irregularities is represented. The period of female adolescence is often associated with conditions accompanied by latent or clinical hyperprolactinemia, which is manifested by menstrual irregularities and pathological conditions of mammary glands. In this regard, administration of herbal medicinal products with dopaminergic action attracts constant attention of researchers and medical practitioners. A total of 14 studies were included in the review. These studies evaluated efficacy of Cyclodynon ® in treatment regimens for such nosologies and conditions as menstrual irregularities in adolescents and young women, dyshormonal disorders on the background of combined oral contraceptives (COCs) administration and postabortal dyshormonal state in young women. The results of represented studies are supported by a large clinical material (n=787 girls) and indicate favorable tolerability of the drug, small number of side effects and significant therapeutic effect, which is expressed in prolactin levels normalization and elimination of menstrual irregularities clinical manifestations.
