This technological development of microelectronics and wireless networks have created a new generation of large scale sensor suitable for a varied range of applications, it is the wireless sensor networks (WSN). In spite of the remarkable advances in WSN, there are still many problems to solve. However, the control of the energy consumption by sensor networks and maximizing their lifetime are the most fundamental issues. Therefore the network needs to perform an initialization phase to self-organize. Actually most of self-organization protocols used in wireless sensor networks is mainly based on clustering. In this paper, we present a survey of clustering algorithms based on energy efficiency in WSNs highlighting their objectives, features, complexity, etc.
