This study performs an empirical analysis on the effect of relative income transition on generalized trust, instead of a relative income standard at a certain point in time. For males, increases in relative income influenced generalized trust. On the other hand, although increases or decreases in relative income have affected changes in generalized trust for females as well, this impact was smaller for females when compared to that for males.
