One reason for the resistance of the population was the high number of evictions of real estates. Thousands of people had to leave their flats due to the fact that they could not pay back their credits. The foundation of protest movements relieved the resistance and the solidarity of the population in order to demonstrate against the current situation. Despite the existance of such social protest movements the willingness to resistance and solidarity is different in the various regions. In addition to the evictions, also the high rate of vacantness is a consequence of the housing crises, which is a result of the rapid increase of the real estate prices as well as the building boom. The question of solidarity and the degree of evictions will be the focus of the empirical part of this thesis. This empirical part includes interviews with experts and fieldwork in order to get an impression of the situation in Spain.
