This paper focuses on Ernst Lecher, Austrian physicist, who studied guided electromagnetic propagation on two parallel wires, with the aim of measuring the relative wavelength. He perfected this device up to the point that "Lecher lines" become a synonym for a two-wire transmission line. His fi ndings were used throughout all of the XXth century to tune UHF receivers, and are still used as an educational tool.
