Introduction: Two of the most common neurodegenerative disorders are Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia, during which the death of brain cells causes memory loss and cognitive decline. There is increasing evidence that saffron consumption has several healing effects, including the protection of C.N.S. Purpose: The purpose of this literature review is the evaluation of the effectiveness of crocin, the key ingredient of crocus, as a remedy for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, with focus on Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's. Material Method: A systematic review of the bibliography has been conducted according to the international databases of Pub Med, Medline, medical terms Scopus, Direct, as well as Google Scholars. Selected resources have been used based on current bibliography. Results: The beneficial effects of the plant and its components are attributed mainly to its powerful antioxidant properties. More specifically, crocus (saffron) evidently presented great results when taken in conjunction with other substances while it has been claimed to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of disorders, including coronary artery diseases, hypertension, dysmenorhea, as well as learning difficulties and memory disorders. Conclusions: This literature review has shown that Crocus Sativus and its components promote health since they can be considered as extremely promising factors in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders. Therefore, although progress in medical science has allowed many of us to live our sixth and seventh decade and beyond, cognitive decline due to old age, has necessitated the need for further research in order to devise the right methods for its treatment. Finally, the question arises whether the facts of the basic research that has been conducted, medical advances and medication will all contribute to the treatment of these particular neurodegenerative disorders.
