Solution to security constrained LFC system using chaos based exponential PSO algorithm

In this paper, design and analysis of load frequency control (LFC) for a realistic two area interconnected power system model is presented. Different generating units (reheat, nonreheat and hydro generating units) with real time different system parameters are considered for the practical LFC model. The practical security constraints such as generation rate constraint (GRC), governor dead band (GDB) and time delay (TD) are also considered. A unique objective function is developed considering

To obtain quick convergence, improved transient and steady state performances, chaos based exponential PSO (CBEPSO) technique is developed. The performance of the proposed technique is compared to other evolutionary computation techniques like real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA), basic PSO (BPSO) and exponential PSO (EPSO) techniques. The CBEPSO technique provides the best performances than other algorithms for all cases.
