The Selection of Academic Library Materials, A Literature Survey

A survey of the literature of book selection in academic libraries indicates that there has been for more than a half-century a continuing shift from faculty-dominated selection to library-dominated selection. It appears likely that the trend will continue, because of the increased use of subject specialists on library staffs, the growth of the publication industry, the articulation of more selection policy statements, as well as increasingly widespread recognition of selection as part of the
