The term "Psychoorganic syndrome" was widely used in the past. This term indicated that the organic" (structural) changes in the brain are the base for various psychopathological manifestations. This term was abandoned due to the lack of specific symptomathology and difficulty in identification the kind of brain changes with the use of available diagnostic techniques as well as the difficulties to identify the connection between the symptoms and brain abnormalities.
