Aims & Scope The Review of Middle East Studies (RoMES) is the Middle East Studies Association's online journal of review. Published twice a year, each issue includes a selection of roundtables, research articles, essays, brief reports on emerging topics and issues, columns on curation and pedagogical practice, in memoriam refl ections on members of the Middle East studies community, discussion of online resources, and approximately 20-30 reviews of books, fi lms, music, software, and
more » ... relevant to Middle East studies. RoMES looks to bridge divides between fi elds, publics, and geographies in Middle East studies, including Islamic and cultural studies, art and architecture, and performance and political studies with an emphasis on new and evolving topics and issues in scholarship, including research methods, ethical concerns, and pedagogical practice. RoMES addresses evolving contemporary dynamics, but also publishes scholarship on premodern topics of interest to a wider audience of Middle East scholars. Mission Statement The Middle East Studies Association (MESA) is a non-profi t association that fosters the study of the Middle East, promotes high standards of scholarship and teaching, and encourages public understanding of the region and its peoples through programs, publications, and services that enhance education, further intellectual exchange, recognize professional distinction, and defend academic freedom in accordance with its status as a 501(c)(3) scientifi c, educational, literary, and charitable organization.
