Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 100 K; mean (C-C) = 0.003 Å; R factor = 0.025; wR factor = 0.061; data-to-parameter ratio = 15.4. The title compound, C 18 H 12 F 3 PSe or SeP(4-FC 6 H 4 ) 3 , where 4-FC 6 H 4 is 4-fluorophenyl, crystallizes with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The two independent molecules have very similar conformations and calculated cone angles of 166 and 168 .
