The article is devoted to the education of indigenous peoples of the Urals in connection with the Russian colonization of the region, as a means of ethnocultural consolidation of the Russians. Discusses the various forms of education of children: religion and aboriginal schools, an assessment of their effectiveness. In the article the author pays attention that education is a means of ensuring ethno-cultural tolerance and empathy.
