<p>Conventional organic synthesis for many oxidation and reduction reactions rely on harsh conditions, toxic or corrosive substances, and environmentally damaging chemicals. In addition to this, competing reactions take place, some of which produce other hazardous waste products, and therefore, reaction selectivity suffers.
