Palavras-chave: óxido nitroso, oximetria de pulso, hipóxia por difusão ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to evaluate the frequency of heart beats (bpm) and the oxygen saturation of the blood (SpO 2 ) through a six-minute monitoring of the patient by using a pulse oxymeter before, during, and after the administration of a sedating mixture of N 2 O/O 2 in a proportion of 50% / 50%. Twelve healthy patients (ASA I), all of them dentists, with ages ranging from 21 to 58, eight women and four men, were submitted to this test. Sedation with the N 2 O/O 2 mixture did not induce diffusion hypoxia.
