Religion is the opium of the people." K Marx Marx described religion as the "opium of the masses" and of course drugs to alter consciousness and hence our perceptions of reality have long been associated with religion. Indeed one wonders wether drugs and religion are fundamental to man, man having been defined both as "an animal who wonders about his origin" and as a "drug using animal."
